It all began 500 years ago when a young John Yesterday was imprisoned for sorcery by the Spanish Inquisition. After escaping from his cell, he was forced to undergo an alchemic ritual that made him immortal. Whenever he dies, he comes back to life at the age he was when he died for the first time. One problem: every time he comes back to life, he has no memory of the past.
During the present day, John lives a quiet life with his immortal partner, Pauline Petit. Together, they leave on a quest to find a special artifact that will allow him to repeat the alchemic ritual correctly so he never loses his memory again.

Immortal since 15th century Spain, John lives in Paris and owns a loss-making antique shop with his partner, Pauline. Each morning he sends himself a message to remind himself who he is. Some time ago, he had a strange Y-shaped scar from his left hand removed. If one day he wakes up and the scar is there again... well, then he'll be deep in trouble!
Paris-born Pauline is immortal too. Unlike John, she retains her memory when she comes back to life, so she is willing to take high risks to protect her boy. Besides, she's an experienced hacker with a peculiar (yet pretty convenient) view of what "private property" really means.
Ginés is the founder of the Order of the Flesh. He's cunning, eager for knowledge and willing to test the bounds of morality to get what he wants. However, he loves John as if he was his own son, and will do whatever necessary to keep him close and prevent other people from hurting him.
After the events depicted in Yesterday, John has grown to naturally dislike rich people. But Baxter, who recently moved from her native London into Paris, may have the key to solve most of John's problems, including a clue that may eventually lead to his darkest lost memories.
Boris is eternally grateful ever since John freed him and is (almost) always willing to help him. Unluckily, he's not that fond of Pauline. Actually, he hates her. Raving mad and definitely awkward, this New-Yorker is still waiting for his dead son to pop up some day.
